The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) was founded in 1993 and is an independent, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization based in Bonn, Germany. The mission of the FSC is to support environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable management of the world’s forests. FSC certification guarantees the fiber used to produce the paper has been harvested from a properly managed forest. Environmental supporters include Rainforest Alliance, World Wildlife Fund and Forest Ethics.

The Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) is a North American program based on the premise that responsible environmental behavior and sound business decisions can co-exist. SFI program participants practice sustainable forestry on all the lands they manage. The SFI is closely aligned with PEFC, The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification, an independent, non-profit, non-governmental organization founded in 1999 which promotes sustainably managed forests through independent third party certification. The SFI label is a symbol that you are buying paper products from well-managed forests, backed by a rigorous, third party certification audit.
